Virtual Community Support Circle for Activists and Allies: In the face of the current regime’s devastating actions, it is normal that we are all experiencing grief, outrage and overwhelm. As witnesses and advocates, we are likely to be experiencing collective trauma. In response to these recent events, Indivisible is offering a dedicated online support space for local community activists. This will be a safe space to process any grief & loss that’s coming up, as well as a space to learn about vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. Facilitated by Michelle Ward, a trauma-informed therapist, this time together will be one for grounding, mutual support and healthy coping skills building. This virtual offering occurs on the second TUESDAY of each month, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, Eastern Time. The next offering is TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8. We are knocking doors: (1) in Central NJ for the critical NJ-7 Rebecca Bennett Campaign against GOP incumbent Tom Kean Jr.; (2) in Evesham for Herb Conaway in NJ-3 (also supporting the local Evesham Dems); and (3) in SJ towns for the NJ-2 Zack Mullock Campaign against GOP incumbent Jeff Van Drew. 1. Get Ready for the MIdterms: Make sure your voter registration is up to date and check it regularly. You need to know if your registration has been removed or changed due to some G.O.P. shenanigans so you can get it fixed before the election. You can easily check your registration by texting VOTER to 59798 or at https://vote.gov/register/new-jersey. This way of checking your registration is especially nice as it can be shared with friends and relatives can also check theirs. Let's share it. We will win the elections!
2. Save the Clean Water Act:
The EPA under Trump is trying to do away with parts of our most important clean water laws, and we need Congress to stop this. The EPA and the Army Core of Engineers have proposed a new rule narrowing which streams and wetlands are protected. if finalized, this new rule could destroy the waterways most vulnerable to pollution, destruction, and overdevelopment. Without federal permits and safeguards, wetlands that absorb floods, protect wildlife and keep drinking water clean will not be protected. Even streams that do not run all year still need help so polluters can’t operate there, and families aren’t left at risk of contamination.

3. Support Congressional Redistricting in NJ: As partisan gerrymandering has added to a weakening of the Voting Rights Act, we need to tell our state legislators and the Governor to amend the New Jersey State Constitution to allow us to suspend the current New Jersey Redistricting Commission, which is not scheduled to convene until 2030. Putting the issue on the next ballot will allow New Jersey voters to decide whether to redraw Congressional districts before the 2028 election.

4. Stop the Sexualization of Children Act (HR 7661 and S4925), better known as “The National Book Ban.”:
These bills were introduced by Republicans to amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. The bills prohibit use of federal education funds in any public school classroom or library for books that have references to gender dysphoria or transgenderism, claiming they are sexually-oriented materials. The Act forces schools and libraries, if threatened, to consider pulling LGBTQ+ books or they could lose their Title One federal funding support. Major literary and library groups like the American Library Association actively oppose this bill as an overreach of the federal government, calling it government censorship.

SPECIAL ARK ROAD RESISTANCE RALLY 4:30 - 5:30: This Friday’s Ark Road Resistance Rally falls on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attack, and there will be a special rally honoring the victims and their families and all first responders. There will be music and singing and possibly some elected officials. This is the same time and location as the usual weekly rally, but the focus will be on 9/11 victims.

Knock Doors in Bridgewater, NJ This Weekend (Sep 5-6) and Other Sep Weekends
-20 SJNOW Indivisible people have knocked, with great results, over 1.4K doors in the NJ-7 Somerset County towns of Somerville, Bridgewater, Raritan Borough, and Warren during the past 7 weekends!
-We will continue our Bridgewater door knocking this weekend (Sep 5-6) during the 10 AM-1 PM shift on Saturday, Sep 5. Three more Bridgewater canvassing shifts are available each weekend during 1-4 PM on Saturdays and 10-1 and 1-4 on Sundays. Newcomers are welcome, and they will receive canvassing training. We also encourage people that are not quite sure that they want to do this to go out on a shift with one of our experienced canvassers and simply observe how things are done. Give it a try!

CALL TO ACTION. Tell Congress: Act NOW to Preserve Our Public Lands
Congress must act NOW to preserve and protect our public lands. The administration has a pattern of treating public lands as assets to be sold off rather than preserved for public use. The administration has weakened the U.S. Forest Service agency's ability to manage the 150 national forests by moving its headquarters and closing research facilities. It has reduced the size of public lands designated as National Monuments and repealed longstanding regulations for both land and wildlife protection. The mismanagement, destruction, and sale of public lands must stop now. It will be too late to wait for the courts to intervene.
Tell our congressmen to take action now to preserve and protect our public lands. Tell them to oppose the sale of our national parks, including sections of Yosemite National Park; oppose the reorganization of the U.S. Forest Service; and oppose the repeal of regulations that protect our public lands and wildlife.

Virtual Community Support Circle for Activists and Allies: In the face of the current regime’s devastating actions, it is normal that we are all experiencing grief, outrage and overwhelm. As witnesses and advocates, we are likely to be experiencing collective trauma. In response to these recent events, Indivisible is offering a dedicated online support space for local community activists. This will be a safe space to process any grief & loss that’s coming up, as well as a space to learn about vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. Facilitated by Michelle Ward, a trauma-informed therapist, this time together will be one for grounding, mutual support and healthy coping skills building. This virtual offering occurs on the second TUESDAY of each month, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, Eastern Time. The next offering is TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8. Weekend Door Knocking for NJ Midterms. We are organizing people to knock doors on weekend shifts from now until November for 3 NJ Democratic Congressional Campaigns. We are knocking doors: (1) in Central NJ for the critical NJ-7 Rebecca Bennett Campaign against GOP incumbent Tom Kean Jr.; (2) in Evesham for Herb Conaway in NJ-3 (also supporting the local Evesham Dems); and (3) in SJ towns for the NJ-2 Zack Mullock Campaign against GOP incumbent Jeff Van Drew. Knock Doors in Bridgewater, NJ This Weekend (Sep 5-6) and Other Sep Weekends
-20 SJNOW Indivisible people have knocked, with great results, over 1.4K doors in the NJ-7 Somerset County towns of Somerville, Bridgewater, Raritan Borough, and Warren during the past 7 weekends! They have also distributed 36 Bennett lawn signs to voters, and they have recruited 7 new local volunteers for the campaign. Our canvassers have received commendations from both Senator Andy Kim and the Bennett campaign, and they have successfully reached out to other NJ Indivisible groups to obtain more Bennett door knockers.
-We have found so far that Rebecca's positions on affordability (i.e., significantly reducing the costs of groceries, housing, healthcare, childcare, energy, and other items) and anti-corruption (e.g., banning Congressional stock trades in contrast to her GOP opponent, Tom Kean Jr) are resonating with voters.
-We will continue our Bridgewater door knocking this weekend (Sep 5-6) mainly during the 10 AM-1 PM shift on SAT, Sep 5. Three more Bridgewater canvassing shifts are available during 1-4 PM on SAT, Sep 5 AND during 10-1 & 1-4 on SUN, Sep 6. Newcomers are welcome, and they will receive canvassing training.

2. CALL TO ACTION. Tell Congress: Enforce the War Powers Resolution for the Iran War
Again, the Trump administration has resumed strikes on Iran--still no Congressional Approval. More strikes mean putting more troops at risk, and more taxpayers' dollars wasted. We must end this illegal war. Congress must enforce the War Powers Resolution.
Call your congressmen and tell them to enforce the bipartisan War Powers Resolution; to oppose any further military action and to hold hearings on the Trump administration's justification for these new unauthorized strikes.
