This will be a safe space to process any grief & loss that’s coming up, as well as a space to learn about vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. Facilitated by Michelle Ward, a trauma-informed therapist, this time together will be one for grounding, mutual support and healthy coping skills building. New information: This will hopefully be the last instructions you get about the food. I've spent a lot of time thinking about how we can avoid long lines at the food tables. Please be patient with me, I really want this to go well. Please bring more than one serving utensil. The line will move faster- especially for salads.

If we are able, I'd like to have lines move down both sides of the table when everyone wants to get their food. Along with your label with ingredients, could you make another label with just the name of the dish for the other side of the table?  People who don't have any food allergies can move quickly down that line.

No ingredient labels are needed for desserts. None of them are gluten free.

Can we have a few people commit to taking pictures? Laura Beverage usually does it but she will be busy with the party.

Call to Action:

Keep Toxic Chemicals Out of Children’s Foods
Tell RFK Jr. to keep toxic chemicals out of our children’s food. A new rule could allow food companies to add some of the most toxic chemicals to their products without full safety review by the FDA.  For example, Perchloate is a chemical in rocket fuel.  PFAS are in flame retardants, and there are other such chemicals that could be added to food at very low levels, But even at low levels, they can interfere with hormones that affect children’s development or later affect reproduction or cause other health issues. Children are particularly vulnerable because their bodies and brains are still developing. 

Also, shoppers would not necessarily know which food additives have the harmful chemicals in them because GRAS chemicals (Generally Known As Safe) are determined now by the companies, not by the FDA. 

The FDA wants public comment until December 9th.  Please comment on the need for rigorous FDA safety reviews of potentially harmful food additives. Call to Action

Tech Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg Attempts to Influence the Election

If you don't know what happened to No Kings this past weekend, you can easily find out by reading what is on the Indivisibles website http://act.indivisible.org.  From there you can easily inform your Representatives/Senators by reading their summary and filling in your name and address to let your Congresspersons know they need to investigate and stop a billionaire's influence on the midterm elections.  

In short, No Kings hosted the largest early vote effort in American history with 3,000 events worldwide over the weekend.  The day was marred by Mark Zuckerberg's Meta, a trillion-dollar corporation, that suspended the No Kings Instagram account for 4 hours.  Afterwards the Meta's spokesperson gave a feeble apology, saying there was a "glitch".  Meta has a history of undermining elections and aiding Trump in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2024.

Congress needs to investigate and step in to protect people and organizations from the undue influence of rich corporations involved in politics.  Indivisibles will gladly send your request for help and there is a place to add a personal comment should you wish to.

Call to Action: Stop School Violence in the USA!

Once again, last night‘s news report included a school shooting, this time in Bend, Oregon – three young boys and one 25-year-old teacher dead - shot by a 16-year-old student.  There have been at least 52 incidents of school and college shootings in 2026 as of mid October, leaving 32 people dead and 50 injured. We need Congress to take appropriate action to stop this NOW!

2. Call To Action: Cancel The Deal To Lift Russian Sanctions

We must not let Trump suspend the sanctions Congress imposed on Russian energy imports.  

We must cut off the money that fuels Putin's war with Ukraine.  Congress must act as it was Congress that explicitly banned Russian imports in 2022 to prevent the U.S. from helping finance this war.  The Russian diesel deal Trump is proposing violates this law.

Call your Congressmen.  Tell them to oppose the Trump Administration's deal to import Russian diesel and demand they follow the law banning Russian energy imports.  The U.S. should not be funding Putin's war with Ukraine.  We must continue to stand with Ukraine.

For those bringing food: Every homemade dish must have a label with the name of the dish listing every ingredient. If store bought, bring that ingredient label.

Drop off the food no earlier than 5:30pm unless you're planning to drop off the food, leave and come back. In that case, drop off is any time after 4pm.

There are 50 people bringing food. If everyone bringing food arrives before 5:30pm and stays, we can't finish setting up.

NJ Victory 2026 is holding poll observer training this week, Wednesday October 14. The training prepares you to observe polling locations for the NJ Dems and report issues up to the state party. It covers both inside and outside observers, during early voting and on Election Day.

3. Call to Action - Impeach Pete Hegseth

Impeaching Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth seems to be a real possibility when Congress comes back into session. Hegseth has already committed a long list of abuses of his position.  War crimes and crimes against humanity, attempts to radicalize the troops to support his genocidal Christian Nationalist beliefs, removal of DEI initiatives, the firing of generals in time of war and making light of the deaths of US soldiers in Kuwait are just a few of his many abuses.  While all of his previous acts are a cause for impeachment, his latest one may be the straw that broke the camel's back.  The depravity of livestreaming a firing squad execution has disgusted enough GOP elected officials that impeachment may finally be possible.

Call your representatives.  Urge them to impeach Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.  He has openly encouraged our military to commit war crimes. 1. Here Are 4 Ways You Can Support the Critical NJ-7 Rebecca Bennett Campaign

Knock Doors in Somerset & Hunterdon Counties This Weekend (Oct 10-11) and Other October Weekends 

-28 SJNOW Indivisible people and friends (including NJ LD8 Assemblyman Anthony Angelozzi) have knocked, with great results, over 2.6K doors in NJ-7 for Rebecca Bennett during the past 3 months. They have done this in the Somerset County towns of Somerville, Bridgewater, Raritan Borough, and Warren. They have also knocked doors in the Hunterdon County towns of Lambertville and Flemington.

-Our canvassers have distributed 58 Bennett lawn signs to voters, and they have recruited 10 new local volunteers for the campaign. They have received commendations from both Senator Andy Kim and the Bennett campaign. They have also reached out to and encouraged other NJ Indivisible groups to produce more canvassers. They participated in a Zoom Canvassing Training event on September 16 with Plainsfields Area Indivisible, in order to obtain more Bennett door knockers.

-We will continue to do Bennett door knocking this weekend (Oct 10-11) in the Bridgewater area and in Flemington. We also need more people to join us, so we can obtain more votes for Rebecca in this very close race. Newcomers are welcome, and they will receive canvassing training. Call Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (973-733-6400), asking for oversight of the water and sanitation quality available at Delaney Hall. The city can’t fix this alone but it can put pressure on the Essex County Board of County Commissioners and the NJDEP to increase monitoring and put the results out to the public to raise greater awareness. Water safety at the facility has drawn intense public scrutiny. Independent testing by medical advocates and visits from lawmakers have flagged severe issues with high lead contamination and metallic, undrinkable water. Geo Group is the corporation operating the facility and is directly responsible for maintenance and safe drinking water.

Call To Action:  Demand Repeal of Harmful SNAP Changes!!!

 After Trump signed his “Big, Beautiful Bill” into law more than 4 million people, many of whom are children, lost access to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition assistance Program) benefits. Soon, states will be on the hook to pay even more for those still able to access these benefit, which could mean a raise in taxes or cutting of other benefits. Congress should repeal the SNAP cost-shift, before it triggers an unprecedented hunger crisis!
